What Celebrities Are Doing

We first filmed the incomparable trio Lau back in 2007 when Channel 4 stupidly agreed to let us run their music website for them. Back then we called them “the best band in the world”. We’re fickle people and we’ve probably said that about a lot of bands since, but Lau are still amazing and a quick glance at the five star reviews their new album Race The Loser has been accumulating suggests other people, more important than us, think so too.

Just once we’d like to see an acoustic artist doing a special “electro” session. We don’t know how that would work, but that’s their problem. Until then, here’s Malin Dahlström from our most favourite electropop band in the world right now, Niki & the Dove, doing the stripped-down strummy thing. You can hear their supposed “folky” roots here. But she needs to get that iPhone fixed.

The first time we filmed The Pierces they still hadn’t sold many records and were contemplating jacking it all in (again). But after their Holy Moly video notched up a whopping 100,000 views on YouTube, their album You & I went Top 5 and all was right with the world. And now their back, to play us a stripped-down version of current single Kissing You Goodbye. Hooray!

Norwegian songstrel Ane Brun’s new album is the one we’ve been waiting for, so we can definitively compile our list of the best records released this year. And we can confidently say that It All Starts With One is a strong contender for the top. It’s extremely bloody gorgeous.

A lot of people often ask us, “Why is Fyfe Dangerfield of Guillemots sitting in your stairwell?” The answer is, we don’t know. He just likes it there. But the other day we heard him singing one of the songs off of the band’s latest album Walk The River. It was so beautiful it nearly made us cry. So we went and got our cameras and made him sing it again, so you could see and hear.
