The Great Gatsby is looking like it’s going to be pretty much everything you’d expect from something directed by Baz Luhrmann. It’s got modern versions of old(ish) songs, lots of dancing ladies, is suitably grandiose and the lead role speaks in an archaic manner. 

Having said that, Carey Mulligan, normally a favourite, looks pretty weak in her role as Daisy, and there’s just something about Tobey Maguire that puts just us off. Maybe it’s the fact that everything that comes out of his mouth seems both earnest and smug at the same time. Or maybe it’s because we keep confusing him with Elijah Wood.

It’s not out until May next year though, so don’t get too excited yet. Just think about Australia. The film, not the place.
