Here’s the plot of what could’ve been a superior Sex and the City movie sequel: Carrie Bradshaw and Big build a time machine so they can go back and avoid the entire unnecessary shambles of the first film (it’s very existential) but the flux capacitor screws up and they crash land in the 70s. Carrie thinks it would be a good idea to ask the then 50-year-old Samantha for help, so they head to the nearest porn studio where they instead find Linda Lovelace shooting Deep Throat. Or actually Amanda Seyfried playing Lovelace.

John Michael McDonagh’s debut feature The Guard was one of Holy Moly’s favourite films of 2009, and it was certainly the funniest. But like his brother Martin’s under-the-radar, violent comedy masterwork In Bruges, there’s every chance you’ve not seen The Guard yet. But now you can, as it’s out on DVD and Blu Ray with a big bag full of extras.
