Star Trek (the game) review: Boldly going where hundreds have gone before
by admin on Apr.26, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
The phrase ‘the game of the film’ rightly fills most gamers with a sense of dread. It’s a genre composed almost entirely of shoddily-built paint-by-numbers marketing jobs commissioned by a studio more than happy to con eager parents into buying their kids a present even Tiny Tim would have trouble being grateful for. Yes, we’re talking about you, Family Guy and you, Battleship.
Star Trek, while no where near as bad as either of those luminary titles, certainly isn’t going to be reaching GoldenEye 64 status anytime soon. The game puts you in charge of either Chris Pine’s Kirk or Zachary Quinto’s Spock as they attempt to investigate a group of sentient aliens called the Gorn, a race infecting StarFleet with a bad thing that makes them do bad things.
Weirdly for a show that was mostly based around finding a non-violent solution to problems, you actually spend most of the game shooting (albeit with phasers on stun) pretty much everything that moves. If you’ve ever wondered whether Spock specialises in anything more martial than a Vulcan neck pinch then know you know – he’s also very keen on shooting people in the groin.
Having said that, despite the attempt to shoehorn an action game into a series that shouldn’t really ever be made into an action game, the plot is surprisingly enthralling. Penned by the same writer as God of War 2, there are points during Star Trek where you find yourself genuinely immersed in the storyline especially with Quinto and Pine voicing their respective characters, but sadly they are few and far between and it’s never too long before you’re yanked back to reality when your genius-level partner, a man who can supposedly accurately calculate the trajectory of stars, once again gets trapped behind a box.
Ending up as a patchwork of other more successful titles, Star Trek never quite becomes as terrible as some of the other dross (yes, Battleship again) released under the tie-in genre, but that’s not to say it’s worth playing. With a wealth of background material, it feels like it really could have been something a bit different. Sadly, despite the presence of some great voice acting and a strong storyline, Star Trek simply isn’t the game to change anyone’s mind about a genre that most would like to see die out as soon as possible.
On the plus side, it did make us want to go and watch the new film. Which in some ways is kind of the point, we suppose. IN WHICH CASE, KUDOS TO YOU STAR TREK THE GAME.
Star Trek (the game) is out 26th April on PS3, PC and Xbox 360. We reviewed the Xbox 360 edition.

So many dresses worn last night, no wonder two celebs ended up going out in the same one
by admin on Apr.10, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
It was ALL going on last night. And not just in one place either – it’s was global. Literally going on EVERYWHERE (well, LA, NYC and London). Rochelle Wiseman-Humes and Kimberley Walsh both wore the same dress – AND THEY’RE NOT EVEN IN THE SAME BAND. Everyone knows that it’s only acceptable to wear the same dress as somebody else if you’re onstage and performing as part of The Saturdays or Girls Aloud. And even then it’s not that acceptable. However, to prove that there was no rivalry, we’ve tried to crop the above picture in such a way that it looks like they’re holding hands. It’s Frankie and Cheryl’s turn tomorrow.
Elsewhere, we have Michelle Williams’ comb-over, Gwyneth Paltrow’s goopy face, Agyness Deyn’s jeans (coz it rhymes) and Pixie Geldof all fancy in LA pre-Coachella-ella-ella-ella. Plus loads more.

Wrestlemania 29 Results: 7 Huge New Rivalries We Could See Going Forward
by admin on Apr.08, 2013, under News
WrestleMania 29 is technically the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of 2013, but it simply didn’t feel like it was. Perhaps because the show was so predictable, we didn’t really witness as many major moments as you would expect to see at the granddaddy of them all. Other than the great match between Undertaker and CM Punk, the PPV featured next to nothing that was spectacular and didn’t do a whole lot …
