Not everyone likes Christmas. Some people would rather the whole festive season never even happened. Unfortunately for them, most of the country disagrees and pretty much shuts down for about a week, leaving those remaining scrooges/practical few a pretty limited choice as to what they can do if they don’t want to watch Only Fools and Horses repeats or pay twice as much as usual just to have their wine heated up.

It’s Round 2 of the live shows, and this week’s theme is Love and Heartache, one unlikely to make for any classic X Factor moments. All we’re expecting is sob stories and actual sobbing aplenty –  before, during and after performance. In fact, we won’t be satisfied until somebody starts having an emotional breakdown over an ex on stage. Do you hear us, Kitty?

We bloody love Judges’ Houses. If you’re able to put up with every single act bawling their eyes out at some stage along the way, then it’s always one of the best parts of any series of the X Factor. Even better than Big Band Week. There’s disgustingly nice houses, never-ending swimming pools, A-list guest judges, Sinitta and it’s the moment you finally decide who you are going to love and loathe once the live shows take over your life. So, who did we love and who did we loathe? And, more the point, what was Sinitta up to this time?

Today, John Galliano received a guilty verdict on his charges for “public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity”, and has been sentenced to a suspended fine of €6000 as well as being put on probation for five years. Doesn’t seem like much? Well, he’s also being told to pay one of his victims the grand sum of one euro as a “symbolic act”. Not too bad, considering that he could have faced a €22,500 fine and 6 months in prison.

The first-week favourite (i.e. through to the finals but won’t win) on The X Factor this year is 16-year-old Janet Devlin from Gortin, Tyrone. Her combination of shyness, vulnerability and cardigans had the X Factor judges gulping back tears as she made Elton John’s Your Song her own. But the young star has told The Sun she’s glad Simon Cowell isn’t on the panel as she thinks he’d hate her. But would he?
