You may have read in the papers (and also here) that the sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie had been officially confirmed and that the cast had signed up to appear in it. It was bollocks. According to James Buckley who played Jay, they aren’t making a second film. What bumder said they were? Oh right, it was us.

Why can’t things just end when they say they’ll end? Despite telling everyone that The Inbetweeners Movie was the last we’d see of Will, Simon, Jay and Neil, they are now officially back for another film. We’d love for it to be brilliant, but can’t help feeling it’ll be a fanny-on-your-face too far.

Wonderful news, everyone! The US version of The Inbetweeners has been cancelled after only one series due to low ratings. Apparently it lost half its viewers over the course of the series, starting off with around the population of Swaziland for the pilot, but then falling to dangerously low Montenegro levels by the end of the last episode. Are you pleased? You should be. Our national heritage is once again safe. Here’s what Zack Pearlman, who played Jay, had to say on his blog about it:

“This was a crazy experience, but one that I will always be able to look back at and smile knowing that we did a fantastic job.”

A bit sad, isn’t it?

Anyway, the good news is that it’s gone, but unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the US version of Only Fools and Horses, which is still being made, albeit under the new name Kings of Van Nuys. Hopefully though, since the title’s changed, perhaps the setting will start to drift a little from the original too. Maybe Del could become a hard-nosed black detective, tirelessly looking for the men who raped and murdered his wife, while Rodney’s now Rodnita, a wise-cracking Latino stripper, always using her smarts and her humour to distract the Sarge’s attention away from Del’s incessant use of violence, booze and drugs to solve his cases. And maybe Granddad can be a retired Mafia capo, slitting throats and breaking bones as he helps Del in his tireless quest.

Cast your minds back to, ooh, two years ago. The co-writer of The Inbetweeners, Damon Beesley told reporters that there could be no more tales of Will, Jay, Simon and Neil’s search for clunge after the movie, since the relationship between the real-life characters on which the story was based came to a natural end after that point. So imagine our surprise to discover that he’s started writing the sequel to The Inbetweeners movie. Our delight at such news is somewhat tempered by having been lied to by a complete stranger we, for some reason, trusted to tell us the truth.

The US version of The Inbetweeners is being made whether people like it or not, so it seems. Apparently the cries of ‘America ruins everything’ ‘America is shit’ and ”Why is Jay fat now?’ have fallen on deaf ears, and as far as one of the UK show’s writers are concerned, everyone’s just being ridiculous about the whole affair. Quite ridiculous.

There are no words to describe how bad this looks. Awful, really awful. This show genuinely looks so bad it could be a parody, which would make it funnier. Honestly (and we only say this about once a week) this could be THE WORST thing we have ever seen. Worse than Battlefield Earth, worse than Crossroads, even worse than Naked Jungle. THE ABSOLUTE WORST. Luckily we can’t embed it, so you’ll have to go and watch it on YouTube yourself (click here to ruin your morning). HEED OUR WARNING.

So that’s how it works is it, America? You take Jodie Marsh off our hands and in return we have to let you remake The Inbetweeners? Doesn’t seem like a fair swap to us. Especially since you’re already in the process of ruining Only Fools and Horses and you probably quite want Jodie Marsh.
