Two things this week. Firstly, well done to British studio Size Five Games who last night won a Bafta children’s award for Privates, a game they made for Channel 4 to help kids learn about sex via the medium of a twin-stick shooter. What they should have done was assumed that any child who was good enough at the game to actually learn anything about sex probably wouldn’t be touching anyone else’s genitals until their tech company floated, sometime in the next 20 years. OH STEREOTYPES, YOU’RE SO TRUE.

Since Skyrim came out we haven’t really had a huge amount of time on our hands for things other than Skyrim. Those potions won’t mix themselves, you know. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ve had no time for other games, just that the time we have is that much more valuable, so we’ve only got a few choices this week, but they’re all good ones. Following on from the news that Kim Kardashian Gordon and Thurston Moore are divorcing after several decades of marriage, indie’s hope of true love has taken another blow after Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard split up. We’ll be listening to Elliott Smith whilst weeping beneath our fringe.

Amongst those staring at the remains of their businesses this morning are PIAS distribution, after the Sony DADC warehouse in Enfield was set alight by rioters.
All of the PIAS stock, which includes independent labels Domino, Beggars Banquet and Warp, as well as the Rough Trade Record Shops was stored on the premises and has been destroyed by the fire, affecting releases by Adele, The Horrors, Seasick Steve and Two Door Cinema Club amongst many others. The three-story warehouse was also the base of Sony’s distribution.

What is it with all the doom and gloom in the news at the moment? Has someone murdered happiness? Today we regret to inform you that Alexa Chung and Alex Turner have split up after four wonderful years as King and Queen of Cool. This news is sure to come as a crushing blow to the indie world, a world which the couple set alight by uniting in the name of all things quirky back in 2007. But there’s no need to worry, because newly engaged couple, Marcus Mumford and Carey Mulligan are surely the perfect fit to take over their mantle. Aren’t they, guys?

We didn’t go to SXSW. We would’ve done if someone had paid for it and we’d have definitely said it was brilliant. But as no one did we can state that watching shit indie bands in a desert is not our idea of fun. However, it seems there’s been some violence at this year’s industry bash and now we’re more interested.
