Lauryn Hill compares being jailed for tax evasion to slavery. It’s nothing like it

by admin on May.07, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip

Lauryn Hill. Doing time!

Poor Lauryn Hill. Even though she begrudgingly rush released her first new track in 15 years, she’s still been locked up for three months for not paying half a million dollars in owed tax. Well that’s basically a return to slavery, isn’t it? At least that’s what Lauryn “lose grip on reality” Hill thinks.

Rolling Stones live video fail. Sounds like they’ve been shredded on official tour film

by admin on May.07, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip

The Rolling Stones

You know those amazing shred videos by StSanders where he makes it sound as if famous bands are playing out of tune? We thought this was one of those – so laughably terrible is the guitar playing and so horrendous the vocals. But this is an official promo video for The Rolling Stones 50 & Counting tour. It’s really, really bad.

Injustice:Gods Among Us game review: Superheroes fighting? What’s not to like

by admin on May.03, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip

What do you get when you give the creators of Mortal Kombat free-reign of DC Comics finest characters and a whole load of dosh? You get a polished, hyperactive camp-off. That’s what.

Now comes the linguistic nightmare of writing about things in Injustice.

The story is surprisingly deep and quite captivating (something about parallel universes where bad versions of all the superheroes exists and everyone is an arsehole to each other). Better than the run of the mill Tekken/Mortal Kombat/AnyOtherFightingGame story where they seem to find longwinded excuses to fight each other in bizarre manga cutscenes (“Hey you, I… think we met at a party one time, I think you looked at my girlfriend” – *FIGHT*)

Speaking of the cutscenes, they suck. Oddly though, the in game graphics are a lot more exciting and flashy, with some fantastic attention to detail. The fight locations are varied, interactive, and frankly bonkers, ranging from Wayne Manor to the underwater Atlantis home of Aquaman. The environments are destructive and hugely reactive to your violent super-powered shenanigans, and really add a sense of tangible physicality to the gameplay. That’s cool.

Every hit really packs a, erm, punch. The combat is really meaty and the special super-moves get a laugh every time. There’s nothing like tasering WonderWoman to the neck, then remote-driving the Batmobile into her knees at speed. That’ll teach her. Its particularly fun when you have a Hero vs Arch-Nemesis (Batman vs Joker). The best part of the fighting comes when you learn how to “transition” between different areas of the environment. In true super-hero fashion, you can dramatically catapult your foe into the next-door area of the arena, usually through 20-floors of a high story building, or into the depths of cave-like dungeons. Particularly fun in two-player mode, paired with a vicious “AHHHHHHHHH!!!!” and a finger point to your friend’s face.

To be brutally honest, I hadn’t heard of about a third of the characters featured in Injustice, but that’s probably because I’m not a hardcore DC Comics fan. There are the big boys like Superman, Batman, Bane and Catwoman, and the not-so-big-boys like Shazam, Black Adam, Grumpy Flakes and Titty Tits (only two of those are fake, guess which ones). But hey, when you can summon sharks to fall from Tsunamis and hit people with a green bus in space, who gives a shit.

The only downside to the gratuitous free for all is that it can be a little daunting to a less seasoned gamer. Some of the special moves are literally impossible to remember, when button sequences become as long as the Qur’an. <-<–>-><–>-><-AXAXBBAX<-<–> = fart. Maybe this was my chubby fingers and my idiot brain’s fault, but it did force me to button bash more than needed. There’s also a ridiculous under-balance of some of the characters power and ability; bigger characters like Bane move like a boat in tar, whilst Catwoman and Batman flip-out shouting and throwing their own shit around before they’ve even put their spandex on.

All in all though its a brilliantly fun romp with an extremely polished, mature finish. A premium title worthy of its rich DC heritage that’ll please super fans and drunk gamers a like, even if Titty Tits doesn’t look much like her original comic incarnation.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is out now on PS3, Wii U and Xbox360. We reviewed the Xbox360 version.
