What Celebrities Are Doing

As you may recall, Jean Paul Gaultier themed his haute couture SS 2012 show around the late Amy Winehouse, which was a bit weird. He drew the line at recreating her blood encrusted ballet pumps with rubies, but it all seemed a bit uncomfortable – particularly since he got a barbershop quartet to belt out rehab as the models in black veils went down the catwalk. Oh, and it all went down on the six month anniversary of her death.

We’ve just been sent these pics from Paul McCartney’s new video for his single My Valentine. He’s set to premiere the video in his daughter Stella’s shop tonight (April 13). But a bit of the video has “leaked” “online” “already”. Whereupon, apparently, everyone went, “Ooh, it’s got Johnny Depp in it. Who knew?” Well, we all know now.

Blue Nile fans have learned to be patient. Very patient. In 30 years, the Glasgow band have only managed four albums. And now we’re about to (sort of) get a fifth, as Paul Buchanan has released the details of his upcoming solo album, Mid Air. We’re not ashamed to admit we did a bit of a cry when we heard the free download track. And then almost did a bit of a wee when we saw the limited edition boxset that’s available only as a preorder from Paul’s website.

A little over a year ago, we wrote excitedly about the first volume of rare remixes to emerge from the ZTT vaults. Volume II of The Art of the 12” is even more of a thrill, containing as it does several tracks that have never seen the light of day before and would’ve blown our tiny childish minds, had we known they existed back in the mid 80s. Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Propaganda and Art of Noise are all present in unreleased form. But so, surprisingly, is Sir Paul McCartney – managing to sound exactly like the Art of Noise. Yes, really.

He’s kind of everywhere at the moment, Paul Weller. You’d expect that, what with him putting out a new album called Sonik Kicks, at the end of this month. But nothing quite prepares you for how radically the perceived idea of a Paul Weller “sound” has been thrown out of the window, then stamped on repeatedly before being kicked into a big bin. Paul Weller no longer sounds like Paul Weller, is what we’re saying.
