What Celebrities Are Doing

Everyone loves Rebel Wilson, because she’s really funny. She was really funny in Bridesmaids and she was really funny in Pitch Perfect and, therefore, we can assume that she will also be funny in her new ABC sitcom, Super Fun Night. And the trailer made us snort-laugh three times in just under two minutes, so that’s a good sign.

Hey, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill etc, here’s an idea we could’ve given you if you hadn’t, y’know, already gone ahead and done it…. You know how everyone used to love you but then decided you’d gone a bit up your own arseholes? Well, how about doing a film where you play yourselves in a hilariously self-deprecating fashion – pretty much like what you always do anyway, but with Michael Cera being a massive prick, which will be funny because he’s, like, so not in real life (or is he?). Then just do all those things you’ve always been really good at doing – like getting stoned – while various celebrities such as Rihanna fall to their deaths down a huge sink hole. 

Trust us (we saw it at a screening last night) – it’s ace. The trailer makes it look like a Scary Movie-esque spoof of Superbad, which it sort of is, but in a very good way. It’s out on 28 June.

After we spent far too long mesmerised by Emma Watson licking her lips in the promo trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring (we were concerned that she’d get chapped lips) we’re surprised to find that, upon watching the newly released full-length trailer, this film looks like it could actually be quite good.

The second Thor film, called The Dark World, has debuted its first trailer and it’s looking a little underwhelming, we have to say. Aside from the huge spaceships and Anthony Hopkin’s voiceover, there’s not a huge amount to insipre us (compared to the recent Superman trailer anyway). Aside from perhaps the bit where London gets destroyed (nice to see the capital being damaged by something other than the sterotypical gaping hole in the Thames), at any rate.

Having said that, it’s directed by Alan Taylor, the man resposible for Game of Thrones, and if the film turn out to be anywhere near as solid as GoT, he’s onto a winner.

The new trailer for Only God Forgives, the second film by Drive pairing Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, has arrived and unsurprisingly it’s just as brooding and violent as it’s predecessor. And Drive, for that matter. In fact it’s looking a lot like Drive 2. Except without as many cars, and with more killing and maiming. Here’s the synopsis:

Bangkok. Ten years ago Julian [played by Ryan Gosling] killed a cop and went on the run. Now he manages a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. Respected in the criminal underworld, deep inside, he feels empty.

When Julian’s brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang – the Angel of Vengeance. Chang allows the father to kill his daughter’s murderer, then ‘restores order’ by chopping off the man’s right hand. Julian’s mother Jenna [played by Oscar-nominee Kristin Scott Thomas] – the head of a powerful criminal organization – arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and ‘raise hell’.

Sounds fun.

Promotion has begun for Disney’s reimagined The Lone Ranger – starring Johnny Depp as Tonto the monosyllabic Native American. Johnny turned up at a CinemaCon presentation at Caesars Palace to do some shy smiling from underneath a hat with a hole in it. So we have pictures of that – outside and in. Plus there’s a new trailer. And a poster. And a UK release date – August 9. We saw some scenes from this earlier in the year. It’s basically Pirates Of The Caribbean but on horses. We hope they quote that on the posters.
