Mobile roundup – Here’s what we’ve been playing on our phones this week
by admin on Mar.22, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
While they’re not all brand spanking new, we thought you might want to know what games we here at the Holy Moly offices have been playing on our mobile phones this week. There’s no overarching theme to them, except for our inability to actually do work. Naturally for any PRs who tried to call us recently, sorry, we genuinely were very busy.
Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno – iOS
A perfectly decent side scrolling shoot-em up with the usual assortment of upgrades and quirky enemies, that we mostly play it because the music irritates the office next to us. That’s a reason, right?
Mini Ninjas – iOS
Another side scroller, except this time you play the role of a ninja who has to kump over obstacles and slash enemies with his sword to progress through the levels. Slow and a little dull to start, it’s strangely addictive.
Sonic Dash – iOS
Remember the levels in the old Sonic games that had him running forward while you moved him from side to side, avoiding baddies and picking up rings, a la Temple Run? Well here you go, Sonic Dash is an entire game of exactly that, except it’s endless, a bit like Temple Run, albeit much harder. Only thing wrong here is that to get anything other than the basic game will cost you in in-app purchases. A lot.
Ridiculous Fishing – iOS
You play a fisherman trying to get your line as deep into the ocean as possible. Then, when you do accidentally hit a fish you then reel your line in and try to catch as many on the way back up as possible, at which point they are flung into the air and you shoot them with a shotgun to gain money to buy upgrades.
One of the best games we’ve played on mobile since Pixel People came out. Genuinely amazing. This week’s pick for sure…
Have a look below for the trailers…

We’ve been to see David Bowie’s things at the V&A exhibition. Don’t miss this
by admin on Mar.20, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
What we expected from the V&A’s incredibly well timed ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition was some of his old stage clobber, a few old contracts and some videos playing on a loop. What we got was like a trip into Bowie’s brain. It’s certainly as crammed full of eclectic, startling, beautiful, strange and marvelous things. And the entire experience is immersive due to the clever use of the audio guide. We could’ve spent days in there.

Dear Tulisa, we still hate your terrible tattoo so we’ve drawn a new one
by admin on Mar.07, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
Tulisa out of N-Dubz and The X Factor did one of her gigs recently. That must’ve been nice for the people there to see the main act Ne-Yo. Or it was a half hour that felt like time had stopped. We don’t know. But we got to thinking how ridiculous her “The Female Boss” tattoo is. It’s a 1970s Carry On film idea of women in the workplace masquerading as 21st century empowerment. And as far as we know she isn’t a boss of anything. So we’ve come up with some alternatives.

American version of Splash! is weird, and we’ve got pictures
by admin on Mar.01, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
To say Splash! was the worst thing we’d ever seen on television would be a lie, because there were attractive people wearing swimsuits in it, but it certainly wasn’t great. Naturally, as with all our inexplicably popular TV programmes, it was immediately remade in about forty different countries, including the US.
Unlike our version however, the US edition has seemingly been designed as the most PC show ever, encompassing every sex, ethnicity and body shape possible. In a way it’s fantastic, in another way, it’s a bit mental. Not everyone is meant for a life in the water.
Anyway, since the programme isn’t actually on TV yet we’ve made a fantastic gallery for you to look at. It’s got a Playboy model, a 7ft ex-NBA player, a 4ft Mexican TV sidekick and someone who used to be in Baywatch. This pic should give you an idea of what to expect:

REVIEW: Crysis 3: One of the most stunning looking games we’ve ever played
by admin on Feb.26, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
The Crysis series has always had a well deserved reputation for jaw-dropping production values. PC owners used the original and its sequel as benchmarks with which to compare the power of their computers (imagine something a bit like Fast and Furious, except with Johnny Vegas lookalikes, no cars and very, very few women). In this respect it’s hardly surprising the newest edition, Crysis 3, has followed (nano)suit with a game that at times looks eerily real.
For those new to the series, Crysis is a first person shooter in which you play as a soldier codenamed “Prophet” in a suit capable of essentially making you superhuman, a second skin that gives you incredible strength, agility, short-term invisibility and even minor invulnerability at times.
Crysis 3 is set in a future where nations have has deteriorated into splinter cells fighting a huge organisation called CELL, that has access to advanced technology from aliens who live underneath the Earth’s crust (it makes sense if you played the first two). As humanities last hope (just make more suits, surely?) your job is to stop CELL bringing about the destruction of the human race, which they are currently well on their way to doing by using a power source with seemingly limitless power THAT THEY DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND.
The storyline here is relatively well done, and features a compelling plot that leads on seamlessly from Crysis 2 with characters that each have their own, credible personality. However the big draw here is the action sequences. Crysis contains some of the best sequences we’ve seen from any game, let alone a FPS. They’re consistently awe inspiring and are always something to look forward to after fighting your way through each mission.
Even though Crysis is a shooter, it’s not short of customisation options. You can alter any gun you pick up and tailoring your suit to your needs is possible too. Throughout the missions, along with all the other hidden things, you can find points to upgrade your suit with – if you want to make a suit that specialises in stealth and assassination or a suit that is extremely mobile yet reasonably defensive, you can do that too; there are four perks you can kit yourself out with and there are no restrictions on the combinations you can have.
The scenery is amazing too; for example the opening section of Crysis 3 is spent on a huge boat and an abandoned, overgrown New York, made genuinely credible thanks to the game’s amazing graphics. It’s not the scenery that’s received all the love and attention here either, the enemies are impressive too, not the human ones especially, but the robotic aliens later on look so futuristic and awesome, it’s hard not to stop and stare before blowing them apart.
Even with all the amazing scenery, customisation and plot, there is one small thing that could have been so easily avoided during the development – the bugs. Not a huge number of them of course, but enough to really detract from the atmosphere at times. The ones that we encountered weren’t horrifically major but very, very annoying; on one occasion when a gun was picked up then dropped straight after, it would stay on the floor but continue firing; another one was an annoying sound bug that meant everything sounded grainy and slowed down, it hurt to listen to any of the characters talk.
Despite the bugs though, this game is what we’d come to expect from the Crysis series. The gameplay is awesome and the RPG elements fit into the game nicely. The plot could potentially have done with a bit of polishing, but it’s no biggie.
Out now on PC, Xbox and PS3. We reviewed it on Xbox 360.
EDIT: OH LOOK, IT’S THE PERFECT TIME TO PUT THAT PICTURE UP OF EX-PUSSYCAT DOLL ASHLEY ROBERTS DRESSED IN A NANOSUIT! Goodness me.

To celebrate Harry Styles’ birthday we’ve made a huge gallery for you
by admin on Feb.01, 2013, under Latest Celebrity Gossip
As you may have gathered from the birthday gallery we posted up earlier, Harry Styles is 19 today. In celebration of that fact that at least one member of the office here cares about the floppy-haired popstar enough to memorise his birthday, we’ve also built the above gallery so you can take a look back at pictures of him that weren’t taken last night.
The other reason you might want to look at the gallery is because if things continue the way they are going, it may be the very last time you see him before he’s covered from head to toe in maritime tattoos with tattoos and has a child with Lindsay Lohan. It’s 2013. Anything’s on the cards. Just look at Zayn. He’s already gone Mayan crazy.
